I think I just undid all my hard work...

... TWO WEEKS of draggin' my ass to the gym every other day, buying new sports bras and eating healthier... all down the drain because of Hon's.

arrrrggghhh.

I'm taking bets...

...on how long I can keep up going to the gym/doing 45 min. cardio every other day for. I've been going on about a week or so, my goal is to stay at it until September, then take a break on vacation, and eventually settle into a 3-day a week routine. My guess is that my motivation to go will wane sometime next week, but here's hoping I can keep up with myself.

...observing at the gym: I sincerely doubt I will ever have rock-hard abs, but that's not going to stop me from trying! Maybe it's just my gym, but why does everyone look around accusingly at strangers for no reason? Here are some instances:
1. When guys ogle girls (well that one is obvious)
2. When someone doesn't wipe down the machinery (club rules)
3. When someone goes over the 12-minute time limit on the treadmill (again, club rules)
4. When watching others do their stretching exercises (that biatch just stole my mat/ball/space in front of the mirror! She isn't even doing her stretches right! Damn you and your lululemon yoga pants!)

...it just seems like everyone is on performance, but I guess that is the competitive nature of athletics - which sucks cuz it makes me overly self-conscious about doing my own thing. Meh, another couple weeks and I'll probably fall off the wagon anyway. Ha!

5 weeks and 4 days until I am on a plane and heading out to Europe for my vacation. Whoohoo!!! (I'd better start making my list of stuff to bring!!)

I am in pain. It's not because I've been to the gym every other day for the last week... it's the sunburn. Yes, in my quest to get a 'base tan' for this Portugal jaunt I seem to have burnt my back and shoulders a bit. Nothing as bad as when I went to Mexico, but let's just say I have a bright red tan line where there ought not to be any lines. . This is what I don't like about tanning. I'm not about to go out in a bikini and get an all-over tan, but I do enjoy the darker legs and arms look... but if I go out I just know that underneath it all I am white as a sheet... and the contrast isn't that pretty. I could get an even tan by going to a tanning salon or something, but I have neither the time nor the motivation to do it. Ah well.

Didn't see "Hi, Pregnant" today on the corner of Main & Marine. That's new. Had a good weekend (besides getting sunburned). Went to a yacht party that was pretty interesting. After eating healthy all week I am having French Fry & McChicken sauce withdrawal. Arrrrggghhh.

Random News Updates

1. SLR is getting fixed.  I got an estimate.  It will cost less than replacing it - phew!

2. Pregnant lady on Main & Marine has been getting a harsh farmers tan.  She doesn't look quite pregnant, but who can tell?  Hell, some days I feel like I look pregnant.  I'm not, though.

3. Went to the gym today, 2nd time this week.  My goal is to lose 6-10 pounds in the next 6 weeks.  I ran into Steve from way-back-when, but that was while I was in the middle of some serious cardio so I couldn't talk long, and he was on his way out anyway.  I also spotted Rich from back-in-the-day as well, but didn't say anything.  On Monday I thought I recognized someone from high school but my excuse for not saying anything was my glasses were off and I was blind.  And I thought going to the gym was such an anonymous task.  Arrggh!  Who am I going to run into next??  I wore my contacts this time by the way.  Turns out I'm not so sexy looking at myself huff and puff in the mirror.

My past has come back to haunt me

Speaking of Steve & Rich...  This whole running-into-people from my semi-distant past is a strange thing.  Normally when I see people I recognize from a few years ago, whom I've been friends with but for one reason or another lost touch... I feel like I have the tendency to look the other way and pretend I didn't see them.  I'm not sure if it's out of snobbery, or can't-be-botheredness, or guilt even... just that in the moment I don't want to spend the few minutes with what seems like 'catching up' but in fact is idle chitchat between strangers.

Running-into-people always tends to be people you don't really expect to run into, like someone you were friends with in Grade 8, or a teacher who clearly does not recognize you, even though they made your life a regular hell for a year.  They never seem to be the people who you would want to run into if given the opporutnity, like friends/ex-friends/ex-significant others that you would like to give a piece of your mind to for some transgression that you never got over.

Recently I've been recognized without my knowing, which is a different kind of flattery.  A few weeks ago I was recognized, in a certain someone's car, in the middle of the night, at a McDonald's Drive-Thru, by a friend of an old, half-forgotten friend.  "Hey, you're Teresa!" this guy said, and pulled up his buddy whom I was relatively good friends with for a year after high school.  (I think he was friends with me because he had the hots for one of my F5 girl friends...)  Funny.  Then yesterday I had an encounter over the phone with my elementary school gym teacher.  Apparently he's the president of the Polish Community Centre, and was putting together a trip for some seniors - he contacted my company for a bus quote to which I replied with an e-mail, and his first question to me was, "Did you go to St. Andrew's for elementary school?"  Because he recognized my name from my e-mail.  "It's me, Mr. T!"  That was quite a surprise... he was very friendly over the phone.  Stark contrast from what I remember, a very tall, dark Polish man throwing rubber balls at me and telling me to RUN.

Perhaps that's where I got my disdain for running from.  Yet still I persist.

Random News

1. My SLR is broken. I noticed the problem a few months back but finally decided to take it in, on account of needing it in September. I figured it was a battery or circuit problem, but when I took it to the repair guy he noticed a crack by the shutter button... an impact damage of some sort. CRAPPY. Getting an estimate on how much it's going to cost but if it's over a certain amount of money I may as well get a new camera. BLAH.

2. Lately when I have been driving home I've been noticing a panhandler at the bottom of Marine Dr. and Main St. Her sign says "HI, PREGNANT. NO JOB, NO RENT, NO FOOD, PLEASE HELP." (Not going to get into the grammar of panhandling signs here.) Now if that isn't a sad case to make you want to give money I don't know what is. But she doesn't look pregnant... You know it could be early days but I have my suspicions. She's only there in the late afternoon (I've never seen her there in the morning)... and on weekdays only. What is she, on shift work? Does she do another corner for part of the day and another somewhere else? Why Main and Marine? Did she get kicked out of the more lucrative areas such as Main & Terminal?? I don't know what it is about panhandlers - you see so many put so much effort and dedication into their begging you gotta wonder - why not put that to some good use? Sheesh.

3. I look great without my glasses on. Seriously. I went to the gym today and did 45 min of cardio. Mmm, and other stuff too, but that's not the point. I noticed myself in the mirror and was quite impressed with how sleek I looked. Could it have been the top I was wearing? Nooooo... I took off my glasses and ran/walked/did the elliptical half blind. It was great. Oddly freeing. However, I may have given someone unwanted/undue attention from being half blind and not really noticing who I was half-staring at (besides myself).

Why is it always dancing and then prancing??

Just one of those silly thoughts that entered my mind this past week.

In other news, I think the world has gone crazy. Stars falling out of alignment and all of that. There has got to be something wrong with the world (or very right??) when Luscious stays home to make cookies, you literally have to drag MV to the bar, and TD & I go club hopping on the weekend.

These are strange days, fellas.

Happy Canada Day...

to celebrate our Dominion Day I decided to come in to work, so I can bank it in September for my trip. Which is now 100% paid for! Yeah, so I didn't end up having any Canada Day party or early summer like last year... but it's all good - we went to MAVERICK'S for their monthly Wednesday Beach Party last night. Trashy bars are great! But not necessarily when they are overpacked. We walked from LZ's to the bar, flanked by TD & Joanne... I've never met Joanne before - she's cool. We did what we usually did - that is, let Tanya work her 'magic' at the door, and although we had to pay cover, we got free drinks! Nice.

Have to give props to my girls because I finally made use of their birthday present to me from January. Happy un-birthday to me!
